  • No Weaver Nor Woman, Hope Mill Theatre, October 2018

Hope Mill Theatre celebrates its third birthday this month and they are marking the occasion with a two week long festival.

Last week, as part of this festival, they hosted a special Manchester ADP Scripts Aloud night: ADP Takes on Cottonopolis. This was unusual for a Scripts Aloud evening because the four pieces were all invited responses to a theme, rather than submissions previously received.

Silver Pine was delighted to be asked to contribute and ‘No Weaver Nor Woman’ was written specially for the occasion. It was directed by Joseph Houston himself (Artistic Director at Hope Mill) and starred Antonia Whitehead as Catherine Chisholm, Pat Brocklehurst as Fish Maggie and Cat Morefield as Rose. All of whom acted out of their skins.

It was an amazing evening and I was so proud to be a part of it.

  • Laudable Pus (From Galen to gallstones)

After such a long period of disruption, thanks to the pandemic, Silver Pine Productions was gagging to get back into the saddle for the 2021 festival season.

There was so much residual uncertainty (would one of us get Covid? Would the venues be able to cope with a socially-distanced format? Would audiences even want to sit in a theatre again?) that eventually, we decided upon a show that was simple, portable and flexible enough to cope with sudden changes of personnel. But still – we hope – entertaining. Thus Laudable Pus (from Galen to Gallstones) was born.

    Check out our trailer!

We took this spoof medical lecture to both Buxton Festival Fringe in July and New Mills Festival in September. And we had a thoroughly good time. As did our audience

We would like to thank both High Peak Bookstore and Cafe in Buxton and The Shrub Club in New Mills for hosting us and doing everything to make sure that live theatre really could come back with a bang!

Professor Ruth Levin – Sarah Gordon
    Neville – Anna Girolami

  • Chuddy for Bamalam Productions

Chuddy has been produced by those very nice people at Bamalam Productions. Bamalam is a young production company making audio dramas and poetry. Chuddy was selected for their second season and released in May 2018.

Directed by Lauren Sturgess and James Steventon.

The cast: Fiona Egan as Heather, Ali Donohue as Jax and Emily Heyworth as Kris.

  • Chuddy at the oldham coliseum

Chuddy, a Silver Pine short, was selected for the Manchester ADP-curated evening at the First Break festival at the Oldham Coliseum in June 2017. Despite only four hours rehearsal, the team nailed it brilliantly.

The production was directed by Darren Jeffries. Heather was played by Annabel Entress, Jax by Pegeen Murphy and Kris by Emma Furnell.

  • Chuddy at the Lounge

Jordi William’s No Words Wasted theatre company unveiled its inaugural production in November with Theatre In The Lounge . This was a show of three short pieces written, directed and performed by people in and around Manchester and staged at The Lounge in Warrington.

I’m delighted that Chuddy was one of the pieces selected, with Janice Fryett playing Heather, Beth Mitchell as Jax and Corin Silva as Kris. Jordi Williams himself was directing.

  • A Hat for Every Head

A Hat For Every Head is our second show of five short pieces, written by myself, Greg and Andrew.

It had three performances at The King’s Arms in Salford on September 2018 and a further two at at The Old Dancer in Wilmslow in October.

  • Phew!

Touch and go, wasn’t it? How many of us thought that live theatre was done for? That the cursèd Covid had killed it off completely? Well, it seems not. Not even close.

We threw together a show for last festival season and, what do you know?, plenty of people came to see it. They wore masks, they distanced, they clapped and they laughed and we loved each and every single one.

Laudable Pus (from Galen to Gallstones) was a last minute decision. A race against deadlines and a defiant shout against positive lateral flow tests and heart-breaking loss. So many shows last summer got pulled or brutally wounded. Somehow, we got through intact.

We’re just grateful. But we had so much fun!
